AAF’s Head of eResearch, Sarah Nisbet, and Portfolio Manager, Nick Rossow, presented at the Australian Sensitive Data Interest Group (AUSDIG), 15 November 2023.
AUSDIG is for anyone with an interest in sensitive data in eResearch and provides an opportunity to discuss the challenges and strategies for managing this type of data. This interest group is co-facilitated by the Australian Data Archive (ADA), Population Health Research Network (PHRN), Melbourne Data Analytics Platform (MDAP), and the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC).
AUSDIG’s members come from across Australian universities, medical research institutes, the CSIRO, and several international organisations.
The AAF team presented on the Trust and Identity (T&I) capability for national research infrastructure.
Sarah Nisbet said, “T&I is more than giving a digital identity permission to access a digital resource. It builds and manages trusted relationships between users and research infrastructures. It is fundamental infrastructure that will create significant advances for Australian researchers.
“The AAF and fellow national research infrastructures are collaboratively building a T&I Framework that includes common policies, standards and technologies, that will enable researchers to enjoy a more cohesive network of services. The goal of the T&I Framework is to create a standard approach across the national research ecosystem.
“Identity and access management has always been a critical component of digital research infrastructure. In modern research infrastructure, there is a need for it to be more than just a username, password and access controls.”
