A seamless and secure national research ecosystem
Trust and identity underpins every aspect of modern research - it is fundamental infrastructure that will create significant advances in outcomes for Australian researchers.
The Australian Access Federation (AAF) is building a Trust and Identity Framework that includes common policies, standards and technologies so researchers will enjoy a more cohesive network of services. Through one username and password they will be able to seamlessly access multiple national research capabilities.
Pathfinder snapshot
The 2021 National Research Infrastructure (NRI) Roadmap identified a gap in securely connecting research infrastructure and this pathfinder will address this gap in three parts - a national Trust and Identity Framework, Accelerators and Incubators.
Trust and Identity Framework
We are adopting and adapting a globally recognised framework to enable best practice trust and identity for national research infrastructure.
Accelerators
We have developed a program of work to ensure the longevity of trust and identity as a capability.
Incubators
We will partner with national research infrastructures, through a series of incubators, to test and evolve the Trust and Identity Framework.
Meet our Incubators
National Imaging Facility
AAF has partnered with the National Imaging Facility (NIF) exploring improved access and collaboration for complex multi-site human imaging projects and medical trials using sensitive data.
Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre
AAF has partnered with the Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre exploring options to provide seamless and secure access to their supercomputing service using federated identities.
Microscopy Australia
AAF has partnered with Microscopy Australia exploring impact tracking through persistent identifiers (PIDs).
Increasing collaboration across research themes
Hear from one of our partners
“T&I is integral for ensuring researchers from academia, the public sector and industry have seamless and secure access to digital research infrastructure. The T&I program will be a crucial component of the ARDC’s new Thematic Research Data Commons, which will scale up digital research infrastructure to meet Australia’s future research needs.”Rosie Hicks
